Mia's First Year

Jenn and I have a baby girl! Her name is Mia Magdalena Umali, and she was born Wednesday, March 28, 2001. This is our first baby. And this blog will be a daily record of my thoughts during her first year growing up with us.

This page only shows one week's entries. To see older entries, access the archives.

I also have plenty of pictures of Mia.

Rick's Ramblings BLOG is still being updated.

Mia can clap her hands. Only two or three claps at a time, but they are claps.

Mia seemed fine today, but around 4PM, she started crying for no good reason. She hardly ate her dinner. When Jenn and I took her temperature, it was 101.6. So I guess she does have a fever.

Mia had to leave day care once again because the folks there determined she had a fever. Of course, when we got home, her fever was fairly mild (just under a 100). I am staying home tomorrow, to watch Mia while Jenn goes about her planned activities (she had decided to take the day off).

Jenn reminded me: instead of just yelling "No!" to Mia, I should say "Don't touch!" Lately, as the force of these nos have gotten stronger, she'll break into tears. Jenn reminded me to reach for her, and give her a hug, so that she knows she's loved. We may not like her actions, but we love the baby.

Jenn can drape a diaper rag on Mia's face, and she will grab the rag then pull down, often with big eyes and a big smile: Peek A Boo!

Mia can now balance herself on her hands and feet. Jenn and I look at one another in amazement everytime we see her. She seems on the verge of standing! Of course, we probably have to wait a few more weeks, if not months. Still, she seems very willing to work at it.
