Mia's First Year

Jenn and I have a baby girl! Her name is Mia Magdalena Umali, and she was born Wednesday, March 28, 2001. This is our first baby. And this blog will be a daily record of my thoughts during her first year growing up with us.

This page only shows one week's entries. To see older entries, access the archives.

I also have plenty of pictures of Mia.

Rick's Ramblings BLOG is still being updated.

It's lightly snowing in Arlington right now. Mia's asleep now, but tomorrow, she'll see snow for the first time.

I bought Mia a Christmas present. I hope she likes it.

We recently bought new nipples for Mia's bottles. The opening is #3 (Mia was previously using #2). Now Mia can finish a 6 oz. bottle in under 10 minutes. She's still not used to how fast the formula comes out.

Tonight, she was quite cranky, from lack of sleep. We gave her a 6 oz. bottle, then another 4 oz. bottle after her evening book.

Mia babbled quite loudly tonight. "Blah-blah-blah-blah-blah" is what it sounds like. I tried to get her to speak more softly, by quietly saying "blah blah blah" back to her, but she responds in her loud voice. Another thing we'll have to teach her.

Mia's drooling is becoming more pronounced. When I checked her bib after I got home from work, it was sopping wet!

I posted a picture of Mia and Bob. Bob is Mia's doll, although sometimes Mia doesn't treat Bob like a doll.

During the weekend, while playing, I posed Bob with some of Mia's toys (blocks, rattle, cups). Each toy was placed in Bob's arms, as if Bob were holding them. Mia, upon seeing it, would ramble over and grab the toy from Bob, usually dropping it to the floor. I guess I'll be teaching Mia sharing later.

Once again, Jenn had to visit the doctor. Mia posted a fever temperature (101.5). The doctor said that it's not an ear infection, but instead a reaction to her teething. Mia also has a slight sore throat. She cried for a few minutes loudly tonight (around 10:00PM), but after a few minutes she quieted down. I'm ready with the Tylenol if need be.

Mia's been working through a cold. Runny nose. Some coughing. Jenn set up the humidifier in her room. We hope it stays a cold, and doesn't become a fever.
