Mia's First Year

Jenn and I have a baby girl! Her name is Mia Magdalena Umali, and she was born Wednesday, March 28, 2001. This is our first baby. And this blog will be a daily record of my thoughts during her first year growing up with us.

This page only shows one week's entries. To see older entries, access the archives.

I also have plenty of pictures of Mia.

Rick's Ramblings BLOG is still being updated.

On our last trip to Toys R' Us, we bought Mia a toy piano. The keys only go from A-E. (Ha!)

After dinner, I'll put it in front of Mia, wondering if this 'exposure' will encourage her to 'become musical'. Both of my brothers learned piano, with my mother's encouragement.

Mostly, Mia just bangs at the keys, which produce real notes. With just these five keys, I can figure out the first few bits of some simple tunes. Mia just bangs away, engaged by the lights and the noise.

Technical note: Mia's bowel movements have become, how shall I put this delicately, more 'lady like'. Yeah, that's it. I need not go any further with this subject. Suffice to say, the development of the baby can be tracked by his or her bowel movement.

I won't have the pleasure in this BLOG to record my feelings when Mia starts potty training, but I'd be remiss not to even mention bowel movements at least once on this record.

Two nights ago, Mia woke up at 3AM, flustered and cranky. The other time that this happened, Jenn said she 'got stuck awake', and I like this phrase. Sometimes, Mia gets 'stuck', and can't get back to sleep. I fed her a bottle, and tried to rock her. When I tried to lay Mia down, she got ornery, and Jenn had to get her to sleep. Sigh.

This morning, she woke up at 5:10AM. We just started our morning a little earlier.
