Mia's First Year

Jenn and I have a baby girl! Her name is Mia Magdalena Umali, and she was born Wednesday, March 28, 2001. This is our first baby. And this blog will be a daily record of my thoughts during her first year growing up with us.

This page only shows one week's entries. To see older entries, access the archives.

I also have plenty of pictures of Mia.

Rick's Ramblings BLOG is still being updated.

She woke up at 5:48AM this morning. However, instead of crying, or fussing, she was quietly babbling to herself. I grabbed another half-hour of sleep. Oh well.

Mia gets awfully cranky right before bedtime. Between 5:30 and 6:00PM, she fusses over everything. We try to distract her, but the only out is to begin the bed-time ritual (a bottle, a book, and then the crib). I wish she would stay up just a little longer because of late, she's been getting up around 6AM. I yearn for her to give me another half hour (just a half hour!) of sleep.

(It's funny complaining about wanting just another half hour on top of my usual six hours sleep, when just a year ago, I was glad to have gotten thirty consecutive minutes of shut-eye.)

Every once in a while, Mia will grab Bob, her doll, and put her face on his head, and caress his face. It's quite nice to see, and she doesn't do it often; typically, Mia will put her finger into Bob's eyes. But this display of affection is lovely. I wasn't near my camera to capture it. I hope to though.

Mia wasn't into drinking her formula today. But she did enjoy canteloupes again for breakfast.

Jenn tried to feed Mia some bread with cream cheese. No go. Jenn also tried feed Mia some strawberries. Again, Mia didn't immediately like it. But Mia enjoyed the canteloupe. Yea!

We took Mia to Toys R' Us (204-206) yesterday.

She was "frumpy" the whole trip. This is our word for quiet, and pensive. I think the bigness of the store gets to her. There were plenty of parents and their children at the store; some buying bikes, others toys. It was a gorgeous balmy day, and people were shaking off cabin fever. I can't wait for the warmer days myself.
