Mia's First Year

Jenn and I have a baby girl! Her name is Mia Magdalena Umali, and she was born Wednesday, March 28, 2001. This is our first baby. And this blog will be a daily record of my thoughts during her first year growing up with us.

This page only shows one week's entries. To see older entries, access the archives.

I also have plenty of pictures of Mia.

Rick's Ramblings BLOG is still being updated.

When I laugh at Mia, she'll often break into a laugh too. Like a snowball, the laugh gets bigger when I keep laughing. I think she likes it.

On the other side: Jenn showed me that if she puts on a sad face, and starts making crying noises, Mia will stop and look at her with concern. "She's sensitive!" Jenn remarked. Yes.

Every once in a while, Jenn and I will "pinch ourselves" about Mia.

We'll ask each other "who's that in the other room?", or "when did she show up?" It's all in fun.

These little pinches remind me not to take things for granted.

There is a gentleman where I work whose baby is almost eleven weeks. We compared notes on baby sleep, and feeding. Our brief chat made me realize how far we've come along with Mia. And yet there's still so much more. This is only the beginning.

Jenn showed me that Mia started learning how to sit up. Mia leans a little forward while sitting in her Boppy. She doesn't sit up yet, so much as she leans forward without touching her chest to her feet. When I came home, Mia (with Jenn's prompting) showed me what she's figured out. She does turn her head towards me as if looking for my reaction. I clapped heartily.

She seems to be getting bigger every day.

Mia needed just a little more help sleeping tonight. We put her into her crib at 7:30PM. She awoke again at 10:20PM, fussy and whimpering. Jenn said I should make a small bottle (4 oz. of formula). I made the bottle, fed it to Mia, made her burp, then let her sleep on my shoulder, before putting her back into her bed.

I can't believe she'll be five months old soon.
