Mia's First Year

Jenn and I have a baby girl! Her name is Mia Magdalena Umali, and she was born Wednesday, March 28, 2001. This is our first baby. And this blog will be a daily record of my thoughts during her first year growing up with us.

This page only shows one week's entries. To see older entries, access the archives.

I also have plenty of pictures of Mia.

Rick's Ramblings BLOG is still being updated.

Mia can grab one of her feet, and put it in her mouth. I'm sure the other foot is not too far behind. A former work colleague said I should anticipate this accomplishment, and here it is.

Jenn bought tiny shoes for Mia at the mall today. They are size "3", and Mia will probably be able to wear them through the early Fall. I plan to take a picture of this soon. I find it humorous that we've bought shoes for someone who can't even walk, let alone stand.

Mia had pears (in baby food format, of course) this morning.

Jenn fed Mia her first mouthful of baby food. Mia had peaches. She spit up some of it on me when I got home.

Mia was good tonight. Normal.

I came home, and talked to her about my day. Jenn and I tried to eat dinner together (while Mia sat in her high chair), but Mia wailed her "I'm hungry" cry, so I made a bottle. Then I ate, while Mia played. Jenn went upstairs to work (telecommuting to her office). I cleaned up the kitchen with Mia watching. I tried to read a few paragraphs of the paper to her. Then I started watching TV, all the while putting toys in front of Mia. I changed a diaper. Jenn came down, and we watched some TV and talked about Mia. I made a bottle for Mia, and then went upstairs to rock her to sleep. I managed to get her into the crib without waking her.

With some variation, my evenings are typically like this. Mia seems a little more responsive every day.

Normally Jenn gets her to sleep (after I make an effort), so it was nice to get Mia to bed myself tonight.

Mia has been sleeping on her stomach now. I spy on her before I go to bed. Her head is always tilted enough to breathe. It makes me wonder: when will she use a pillow?

I posted two pictures (44 and 45) of Mia getting fed. Tonight was our third or fourth evening feeding Mia cereal. Every night is getting better (i.e. Mia is actually swallowing the food). We may start feeding her cereal in the morning.
