Jenn and I have a baby girl! Her name is Mia Magdalena Umali, and she was born Wednesday, March 28, 2001. This is our first baby. And this blog will be a daily record of my thoughts during her first year growing up with us.

Mia and family have been at Gradma's the past few days. It was our first overnight trip with Mia.Mia has begun waking us up in the middle of the night again. I hope that she'll get back to sleeping through the night. Perhaps it was being in a different bedroom. Perhaps it was sleeping in the same large room with her parents (she slept in a portable playpen/bassinet). All I know is that I'm glad to be home and back to our usual routine.

An old colleague remarked to me that "it's not a question of when the baby sleeps through the night, as it is a question of when the parents decide to sleep through the night." I still mull this small wisdom, since Mia appears to be one of those babies with early social sleeping skills (she slept from 11:30PM to 6:30AM last night). Is it because Jenn and I have somehow subliminally communicated our need for sleep to Mia, that's caused this development in her? Who knows? I'm just thankful!
